24h compo
In February 2026 I decided to take part in this ‘24h compo’ related to Atari. The theme was ‘hardware glitch’. Within a (less than) full day I made a very simple game for the 8‑bit Atari, written in Pascal.
The 24h compo unfortunately got cancelled because there were too few entries. A bit later I expanded the game with some extra levels and added a menu to choose them.
The game
Actually the game didn’t have much real connection with Atari hardware - it used a high level programming language (instead of the 6502 assembler) and only the text mode.
The game rules are simple: you have to collect all items to finish a level (one of three). The main game character - a wrench - is controlled with a joystick.
The items to collect are:
- COAL - the real fuel of Atari computers
- NOTE - fixes audio glitches
- JOYSTICK - fixes problems with controlls
- MONITOR - fixes blinking graphics
Latest game binary, and full source code are available under MIT license on GitHub.
